The great foods of Delhi !!

People in Delhi are very fond of eating out, and this is best illustrated in the number of eating joints in the city, which cater to all segments of the society. Dining out in Delhi is always a pleasurable experience with the wide variety of cuisines available here. But this is quite a recent phenomenon. Till not very long ago, eating out in Delhi meant going out for a typical Indian meal. Channa and bhatura were what was commonly available at road side stalls, along with various kinds of chaat(junk food). But now the food scenario seems to have undergone a complete metamorphosis. With many ideas and recipes moving out of their shell and expanding to many regions in Delhi, the tastes of ‘paranthe vali gali’ are now spread to all corners of the city, famous chaats are available to many through new concepts like ‘chatak chaat’ etc.

I have made an effort to get some famous places in Delhi together. These range from the famous road side stalls catering to students and office goers to some high end outlets where everyone hope to go some day.

The legendry Delhi food

IIFT – tanku Dhabha, Mathew Tiffen Corner
These are typical lunch and dinner (late night as well) hang out places. If you check out the pictures you would realize that these are nothing more than small shops (well not exactly) under a tree. But don’t be fooled by their appearance. These places serve some of the best food on offer in Delhi. I have also pointed these places on the map, just in case you are tempted to go there.

Chottey Lal (chat)
This shop (though small) has been there forever. Great chaat with a typical way of serving. The taste would cast a spell on you and you would want to go back again and again.

Al – kuresh, Galina, Khan Chacha, Rajendra da Dhabha
Paradize for people who like their non-veg. The kebabs at al-kuresh and khan chacha are as soft as cream and delicious to the core. If you are a tandoori chicken fan then you cannot miss Galina in gole market near CP. Perfectly roasted with spices raching the bones.

Roshan Di Kulfi, OM corner
Famous for their chola bhatura. You should see the size of their bhaturas. But they are so tasty that you are bound to order for more.
To top it up, you have the most delicious faluda kulfi at Roshan Di Kulfi. You would not find better faluda kulfi anywhere in the world, I can bet on that.

Fateh Chand ki kachori, Frontier ke Samose
If you have a taste for real Indian junk food (samosa and kachori) then there would not be a place that serves better quality stuff than the two mentioned here. Even a sckeptic like me has been turned into a die hard follower. The places are marked on the map just in case you feel it will be difficult for you to reach there. I would urge all the readers to be there once in the life time for sure.

Paranthe Wali Gali, Moolchand Paranthewala
Though Moolchand paranthewala is more famous because of its late night operations, but the taste and method of prepration is great. But, if you want to see a unique way of making paranthas and taste some never heard of fillings you must go to Paranthe Wali Gali in Chandani Chawk. My personal favorite is Khurchan ka prantha and Rabri ka prantha. I am sure very few who are reading would have even heard of these pranthas.

Taking the legend forward (legends themselves)

Moti Mahal Deluxe Tandoori Trail
Almost 80 years of legacy of delicious non-vegetarian food. Today the food quality is coupled with great ambiance and décor. You would love to come here again and again.

Chatak chaat, Bittu tikki valla
Well Chatak Chaat has suddenly made its presence felt by being present in almost all the major hang out spots with typical Delhi chaats standardized to perfection. The stuff used is fresh and you need not worry about the hygiene at all.
And what can I say about Bittu Tikki Valla. I remember when I came to Delhi this guy was just a small “redi vala” (hawker) near my house. Look where he has reached in no time. With crisp and big tikki as his specialty, they have now added all the chats, bhallas and other stuff to become one of the most sort after chaat caterer in Delhi.

The great kebab factory, Chicken inn: pandara road
The great kebab factory is a five star restaurant serving the most delicate tastes with utter aplomb.
For late night eaters Chicken Inn will be open past 2AM. So, you know where to get great non-veg at night.

Kwality, Gulati
Kwality in CP has always been famous for chola bhatura among the upper sections of the society. You can find even the foreign tourists trying out bhaturas here. And, Giani’s at pandara road is always at its serving best for ages. This places has also been voted as the best place for non-vegetarian in may polls. Make sure you try this place.

Bikanerwala
Has made a name for itself with quality, standards and hygiene. Present in many places in Delhi/NCR. So, theres not chance that you would not come across one as you travel along.

Not just paranthas
They have taken out the pranthas out of the pranthe wali gali and taken it to many parts of Delhi/NCR.
Chura Parantha (both veg. and non-veg.) are a treat. This place is not for people who are calorie conscious :) .

Well there are many more places in Delhi worth exploring. Would definitely add some more to the list and let all of you know.
